The Advertising Standards Agency (ASA)
The ASA ensure that the consumers trust the ads that they are shown, the enforce rules such as the Advertising codes that are written by the commmittee of advertising practise and they act swiftly if any of these rules are broken. The ASA are a self regulatory company. In 2008 the ASA helped change or take off the air around 2500 advert where there adverts did not agree with the rules of advertising
and They were involved when a mascara company was using false eyelashes within there advert and claiming that the mascara enhanced the length of the lashes without stating anywhere on the advert that false eyelashes had in fact been used.
National Union Of Journalists (NUJ)
The national union of journalists regulate; freelancers, writers, editors and sub-editors, photographers, reporters and illustrators. They regulate in broadcasting, newspapers, magazines, books and in public relations and they are a self regulatory union. The NUJ put codes such as Obtains material by honest, straightforward and open means, with the exception of investigations that are both overwhelmingly in the public interest and which involve evidence that cannot be obtained by straightforward means, not to intruding into anybody’s private life, grief or distress unless justified by overriding consideration of the public interest and
they Protect the identity of sources who supply information in confidence and material gathered in the course of her/his work.
Press complaints commisSion (PCC)
This is the Press Complaints Commission they are the regulatory body of newspapers and magazines. They receive complaints about articles from the public and then act on them appropriately. They are a self regulated company.
An example of where the Press Complaints Commission have had to take action is in the bad parent claim towards Katie Price and Peter Andre.
When incorrect information has be issued in a magazine or newspaper they only have to write a small apology within another issues. Some of the codes they put into practise include; In cases involving personal grief or shock, enquiries and approaches must be made with sympathy and discretion and publication handled sensitively. This should not restrict the right to report legal proceedings, such as inquests, The press must not identify victims of sexual assault or publish material likely to contribute to such identification unless there is adequate justification and they are legally free to do so and Journalists have a moral obligation to protect confidential sources of information.
Task 2
The main differences between criminal law and civil law are that Criminal Law is concerned with establishing social order and protecting the community as a whole. It gives us a set of rules for peaceful, safe and orderly living. People that break these laws can be prosecuted and if found guilty they could be fined or sent to prison, or both Whereas civil law Civil Law deals with the rights and duties of one individual to another and deals with laws that apply because people say they are such as speeding and parking violations, they were result in loses of freedom but they can result to fines and lose of privileges.
Health and safety During a photoshoot
1. Make sure that all cables are secured and easy to see so that people do not trip on them.
2. make sure that people are aware that the lights are hot and make sure they do not touch them.
3. When shooting on location make sure that the location isnt dangerous and make sure you have permission to be there
4. In the studio make sure that the back drop is taped to the floor so that it doesnt cause a hazzard and people do not trip on it.
5. if using a ladder to shoot from make sure somebody is holding the ladder for you at the bottom and that they support you.

Copyright protects the physical expression of ideas. As soon as an idea is given physical form, e.g. a piece of writing, a photograph, music, a film, a web page, it is protected by copyright. There is no need for registration or to claim copyright in some way, protection is automatic at the point of creation. Both published and unpublished works are protected by copyright. Libel Law
Defamation is a false accusation of an offense or a malicious misrepresentation of someone's words or actions.
Libel is a false and malicious publication printed for the purpose of defaming a living person.
Slander is words falsely spoken that damage the reputation of another.
Data Protection
Data protection is the relationship between collection and dissemination of data, technology, the public expectation of privacy, and the legal and political issues surrounding them.
Ethnics
Examples of where groups or individuals have not been treated fairly in the media include Teenagers being labled as Hoodies because of individuales, women being said to be the worse drivers and also the media can influence different people opinions on different situations such as the election by what they say.
